Rivet Lamps for Juniper

The rivet lamps are a family of three cordless table lights including button, cone and Pan. The form of which are derived from different types of solid rivets – permanent mechanical fasteners. The base cylinder made from synthetic stone houses the battery and LED light source while the various formed heads in copper and polycarbonate act as diffusers to create a warm ambient light that can be adjusted via the dimmer switch to suit the chosen environment. The cordless lights allow for the freedom of use in a variety of locations or alternatively they can be powered directly via the mains, while placed on their accompanying charging base. The Rivet Lamps will be available from Juniper Early 2013.

Modelling Tools For Swann Morton

The Plane is the first in a range of highly crafted brass and solid walnut model making tools to perform tasks that require the upmost in accuracy and skill. Housing precision ground carbon steel blades from Swann Morton’s arts, crafts and modellers (ACM) range, the tools have been designed to function as task driven objects and as frames showcasing the exacting manufacture of each blade – from the angle of the grind to the pressed product number. Further tools to feature in the range include a mite joint cutter and fold scorer.

Founded in Sheffield in 1932 Swann-Morton started by producing razor blades, working out of a small workshop and building their own machinery. Since then the company has developed a worldwide reputation for quality scalpels and blades that is second to none.

The modelling tools have been produced In conjunction with the Designers in Residence Tools for Everyday life project, an ongoing brief set to the Designers In Residence community with the intention of investigating the language of task focused objects – products that lead to the creation of something else.

Gates and Railings for Northumbria University

The architect’s vision for Northumbria’s new City Campus East was to create a fusion between formality and structure of processes – the spatial side for the School of Design’s new building and the structured side for the School of Law and Newcastle Business School’s building.

The commissioned gates & railings complimented this vision, with the idea of motion and the transfer of people becoming the work’s focus. Studies into the ebb and flow of a river, creating movement with dynamic and often contorted patterns formed links with the buildings aesthetic, consisting of convex and concave exterior mesh frames. This translated into a repetitive pattern, which could be used for both the gates and railings.
